Some Mystery British Mustelids
Jon Downes, president of the Centre for Fortean Zoology UK has written about the survival of the pine marten in Devon well into the 20th century, beyond its “official” extinction date in that county in his book The Smaller Mystery Carnivores of the West Country.Jon titled a chapter in it “Muirheads Mystery Mustelids" in honour of some research I did on the subject in the mid 1990s. Since then I have published in my open cryptozoology journal Flying Snake some stories of a small mystery mustelid known about in the 1940s from Sussex called the "kane" or "cane", a folkore-known type of weasel. I have also written about the "pygmy weasel",see my book Muirheads Mysteries
